Skurugata

Skurugata, which is one of the most amazing geological formations in the area, is a 800 m long, 7 to 24 m wide, rock ravine. Standing between the precipitous rock walls, which in some places are 35 m high, makes you feel very small! There is some uncertainty about the origin of this ravine, but the most probable explanation is that it was eroded during the retreat of the inland ice; other suggested explanations are that it is a natural rift or fault.

Astrid Lindgrens Näs

Astrid Anna Emilia Ericsson was born here, at the farm at Näs in Vimmerby more than 100 years ago. Her father was tenant farmer at the rectory.

This is where Astrid climbed in the "lemonade tree", played with her siblings, jumped in the hay and listened to stories in Kristin´s kitchen.

Her childhood home is still intact. The house is open for guided tours all year round. What a fantastic experience to enter into Astrid Lindgren´s unique childhood home.

Virum Moosepark

Virum moosepark opened in the spring of 2008 and is run by us, Kjell and Helene Svensson.

We started the business because of our long founded interest in animals and nature. After having been farmers with cows and horses on our farm, we have now changed to moose and deer in our park and hope to show them to everyone who is interested. We want visitors to be able to experience moose and deer in their natural habitat. In beautiful surroundings, you can get close to the animals, observe their behaviour and be fascinated by their special beauty.

Pelarne Church

Pelarne Church is an attractive one, and is popular with tourists and for weddings. Parts of it plainly date back to the Middle Ages, although it has been substantially altered since. During restorations original medieval frescoes have been uncovered. The eastern walls are thought to have built in the thirteenth century. However, with its chip-covered walls and slate roof, the church has an essentially eighteenth century appearance. The church lies about ten kilometres to the east of Vimmerby town centre.

Bullerbyn

It was here in “Bullerbyn”, Astrid had her thoughts when she wrote about the "children in Bullerbyn". Astrid´s father Samuel August grew up in Mellangården and owned a time both Sörgården and Norrgården togheter with his brother in law. However, it is not her father's childhood she describes in the books about the Bullerby childern, its her own childhood during the twenties.

When it became current with a newly filmproduction about the childern in Bullerbyn, they couldn´t they  find a better place than Sevedstorp, the “correct” Bullerbyn.

Eksjö museum

Some once said; Eksjö doesn’t really need any museums, the whole town is like a living museum. This is true, but we still want to keep some of the items in specific museums.
One example is Eksjö Museum which hosts the permanent exhibition “ Eksjö throughout the Centuries”. You will also find the Albert Ensgtröm-collections, probably the largest collection of Engström memorablia.
