Centrum Mariannelund

Kullagården Vandrarhem is situated in the middle of Mariannelund, a quiet village where everybody goes his own way. Lots of wooden houses in different colours decorate the streetscape. You will find shops like a supermarket, hardware store, bakery, second-hand stuff and petrol pump. The tourist bureau is at the centre where you can receive a lot of information. You can stop by the old fashioned sweetshop, where sweets are handmade. In the shop you can see how the sweets are made and of course you can buy some sweets. There is also a blacksmith museum from 1880, from which Mariannelund is originated. At that time the manufacture consisted of kitchenware like frying pans, kitchen-ranges and stoves.Within walking distance from Kullagården (about 200 m.) you can travel by bus or train. But of course it is also pleasant to discover Mariannelund during a relaxed walk, so you get acquainted with the culture and society.

Round about Mariannelund

In the surroundings of Mariannelund is a lot to experience. After a 20 minutes drive you find Katthult, this is the place where the original film shootings are made of the series Emile. You can admire there the well-known carved out little dolls of wood.  Another old TV series is Pippi Longstocking; a whole park is spent on her in Vimmerby. Here you can easily spend a day and it is very nice place for children. In Eksjó there are old alleys from the past and wooden cottages where people still live in. Or what about a visit to one of the five museums? Looking for gold in the wilderness and coming home with a lump of gold, this is something you will find in Äldelfors, an adventure in itself. Near Karlstorp in the middle of nature you find Kleva Gruva, where you will go tens of meters into the cave: a cool experience beneath the surface of the earth.A lot of people from Sweden go to Bullerbyn; a small hamlet where Astrid Lindgrens described the life there in one of her books. Further there are activities like biking, walking, fishing, Nordic walking and canoeing and during the winter-months ice fishing, cross-country skiing and  skating.

Of course there is a lot more to experience in the wide surroundings. Please go to our reception and we will gladly provide you with information.
